Nail Health Before Nail Beauty

When it comes to having a beautiful nails, there are some rules to follow. Most important rule, which most people forget is to keep them healthy; infections and diseases free. Only healthy nails can be beautiful and long lasting.

Keep reading and learn more about “Nail Health” rules:

  1. Like most health related things, even good looking and healthy nails are coming from proper diet. To grow strong and healthy nails it is important that the ingested food contains lots of vitamin B, iron, calcium and potassium. To prevent nails to split and become weak, you need to make sure to drink plenty of water.
  2. Different nail infections and bacteria in most cases come from dirt and moisture. All this is collecting under your nails and/or on your cuticles. This is why it is important to keep your nails dry and clean, what will improve your nail health for sure.
  3. Summer… Summer time is great for enjoying and having fun, but make sure that your nails are not ignored during the summer. Swimming (chlorine) and sun during summer months can make your good looking nails brittle. This is why it is important to remember to use sunscreen and moisturizer on your hands after swimming. Like rest of your body even your nails, which are an extension of your body, needs you to take care of.
  4. When it comes to cutting your nails and cuticles, you have to remember few things… It is recommended to cut your nails straight across and not at an angle. Cuticle should not be cut. If you don’t take care and you don’t cut your nails and cuticles properly, then things like hang nails and ingrown nails can occur.
  5. Nail biting is bad habit, which is not bad only for your nails, but for your teeth to. This habit can damage your nails and skin around nails and even cause infection. To enjoy healthy nails it is important remembering to protect them in any possible way.
  6. Working in the garden, water, harmful chemicals and harsh detergents while washing your dishes or washing the car is bad for your nails. What can you do to protect them for this? Well, you can make sure you are wearing gloves while you are doing this.
  7. Another important thing is to learn more about nail health. Knowing more about it will help you to spot your nail health problems on time and prevent/cure them.

Few tips:

  1. Deformed nails… There are many reasons why your nails are deformed and what could be cause to this problem. Spoon shaped nails are in most cases caused by iron deficiency.
  2. Swelling around the ends of fingers and toes sometimes, clubbed nails can be caused by heart or respiratory problem.
  3. Pitted nails; Psoriasis can be cause to this.
  4. Vertical ridges on your nails are usually showing up as you get older. This is sign of mal absorption of vitamins. You need more vitamins A, B complex and vitamin C. You also need Calcium, Magnesium, Zinc and some of the other essential fatty acids.
  5. Discoloration is another usual nail health problem. This can be sign of more serious health problems like Anemia. This will cause your nails to look very pale.
  6. If your nails turn kind of whitish, you could have Liver Problems.
  7. White spots on your nails are usually caused by deficiency of vitamin A or Zinc.
  8. Dark spots that resemble splinters can be caused by bacterial infection.
  9. Whitish, soft and even crumbling nails are sign of fungus infections.

Remember, more you know about it and more you do to prevent nail health problems, more beautiful they will look and longer they will last. Just do your best to keep them clean.
